Watch Winder Warranty Facts Every consumer wants a warranty for any product they purchased. This is a necessary requirement especially when they know none of the “affordable” watch winders last forever and repairs would require additional money and time. So what does a warranty do? Simply put, a manufacturer serves a warranty for a period of time they feel confident in, a time frame that they know the product should be able to last. A warranty gives you peace of mind that the watch winder unit will function during that period. So if a 6 month warranty is provided for a certain product, it means to me that the product cannot last more than the specified time. Manufacturers who stand firmly behind the quality of their products usually provide longer warranty periods; one year being the norm for most watchwinders starting from the date of purchase. So just bear in mind that amongst the other “Functions and Features” you seek in an “affordable” watch winder do think about the warranty period and the items/conditions it cover. Warranties in a watch winder usually cover the general workmanship and construction of the housing, materials used and the motor itself which will ensure you have a perfectly running watch on it. When mechanical failures occur during the period of warranty, all repairs should be rendered free-of-charge except for collection and delivery (S&H) cost. Replacements could also be done during such time. In most warranty, distributors and/or manufacturers will specify what are not covered, and they include the following. a) Defects sustained during operation at user’s site such as dings, dents, scratches, breakages, etc. are termed as mishandling or due to improper use of unit. b) Power adaptors – which the user can easily replace. c) Noisy motors – this is subjective. d) Wear and Tear e) Burnt motor due to over-voltages. f) Battery leakage causing heavy staining or malfunction. g) Attempts to repair it by anyone, including the user will void all warranty. In Singapore, some cheaper watch winder units sold have only 6 months warranty. After this period, repairs are usually charged with additional labor cost thrown in. Factor this and the time spent sending the unit for repairs and collecting it afterwards, it would be better getting a quality watch winder that has a longer shelf-life while saving you from all these hassles. Don’t be “Penny wise, Pound foolish”. Labels: Watch Winder Warranty
