How “Cheap” Can a Watch Winder be?
Everything has its cost. You get what you pay for!
Ok, I’m not talking about those who say that the cheapest watch winder is your wrist. Several people have jokingly come up with ingenious ways to wind watches, such as in a blender, strapped to a ceiling fan, or their bicycle wheel, with an electric drill, hung behind the door, or a car’s rear view mirror and more ways than I can imagine.
I’ve also read several forums on Homemade Watch Winders and challenges to make one below a certain cost. The one using a barbeque rotisserie cost about USD30.00, the one made from pieces of wood and leather cost about USD70.00. So what if they’re referring to a professional looking watch winder that may be just like those sold in today’s market. Can it be cheap?
Here are some links to what I’ve found that best describe what I’m talking about.
The conclusion I’ve made is that Cheap Winders are not well designed and would not only hurt your timepiece, it’ll hurt your pockets due to the constant breakdown and the repairs of the winder unit. You’ll end up buying another winder at the end of the day!
