How to Sell the Best Watch Winders

Many people have given their advice on Selecting and Buying the Best Watch Winders. But are the sellers selling the Best?

Many types of watch winders have appeared in the market, ranging from below a hundred right up to thousands of dollars. They come in all shapes and sizes, colors, made from different materials, with “silent” motors, fuzzy logic and have many brand names. I’m not talking about well-known brand names such as Orbita, Scatola, Rapport or Buben Zorweg but those that generally fall in the “cheap” or “affordable” category. Are these best in terms of quality, technology or price?

Cheap watch winders are logically built with cheaper parts. And cheap parts do not last. However, there are a handful of affordable winder units in the market that can be termed as “Cheap and Good”.

Product knowledge is by far the most essential ingredient you need when selling any product. So, before selling any watch winders, make sure you know the product inside and out. Don’t be caught without an answer if your buyer has a specific question. Let’s say the reverse were to happen, if you were interested in buying a watch winder from a salesperson and this person couldn't answer your simplest of questions about the product, how much faith would you have in it? Probably next to zero! Or, perhaps the salesperson tells a quick lie and you detect it. How would you react?

George Herbert once said, “A Buyer has A Hundred Eyes, the Seller but One.”

Here are a few tips on how to begin...

Do your research

The internet has a wealth of information; use whatever preferred search engine and start with…

  • Watch Winder definition
  • Purpose & Functions
  • Pros and Cons
  • TPD issues
  • Negative comment

Select a reliable Watch Winder manufacturer or agent

  • With information obtained from your research, you are better equipped to select winders that are reliable, low cost and do not make you worry about returns.
  • Your selection of manufacturer or agent is also important for technical support; you are not merely selling a product but also any technical services you could provide.
  • Do not switch models or manufacturer. Grow with them. Improvements can be made from lessons learnt.
  • Visit the manufacturer to learn about the manufacturing processes so that you will gain more information that will serve you later.

Use the product

  • It is always wise to use the product and test it yourself before you can convince others about the quality, reliability and care given to luxury watches when it’s on the winder.
  • Review its shortfalls or disadvantages and give feedbacks to the manufacturer or agent for improvements and corrective actions.
  • Test and evaluate using various timepieces of different calibers and weights to know which watches are not suitable and which are, so that you can advice potential customers of this. People would trust you more even if you don’t make a sale that day. Don’t oversell with big promises.
  • Find out how to overcome any potential problems encountered using this winder.
  • In short, sell a quality product that you truly endorse.

Support your product

  • Ensure your product can be easily repaired; acquire the know-how from your manufacturer or agent on how to do a quick-fix so that your customers could constantly use your product.
  • Set-up a repair or service center locally.
  • Keep spare parts available in store for quick repairs and swapping of parts.
  • Provide a longer warranty period to show your confidence in your product.

Sell yourself

  • Let your customer know you are available for any technical questions about the use of the winders or the winding process.
  • Keep abreast on watch winder products or technology to give assurance to your customers that you know your products as well as your competitors. This is done when you do your research, refer to step 1.

Whatever the cost, the best watch winders are reliable over an “X” period of time. If and when it breaks down, it is also repairable.

The bottom line is… if you want to sell a product, you have to know your product well to sell the Best Watch Winders. You’ll get more sales because people trust you.
